Where The Prize Money For The FA Community Shield Comes From

Well, we have found out that the majority of the money is earned from the sale of tickets and match programmes, as well as through sponsorships and TV arrangements.

In addition to these sources of income, the FA also receives donations from charitable organizations and individuals. These donations are used to supplement the prize money for the two teams and to support other community initiatives.

The FA Community Shield is one of the most awaited matches in England every season and major brands would, fans and football lovers would do all they can to be a part of it for the promotion of their brand and for their own personal satisfaction.

The Community Shield Prize Money In The Last 10 Years

Let’s take a look at the prize money of the English Community Shield, in the last 10 years.

SNYearPrize money
1.2013£1.2 million
2.2014£1.2 million
3.2015£1.2 million
4.2016£1.2 million
5.2017£1.2 million

7.2019£1.2 million
8.2020£1.25 million
9.2021£1.25 million
10.2022£1.25 million

In recent years, the English FA had to increase the Community Shield prize money since 2013 when each of the two teams got £1.2 million. The winnings per team climbed to £1.25 million in 2022 and this rise in the prize money is based on several reasons including:

  • The rise in acceptance of Community Shield
  • the rising cost of the match’s television rights
  • The match’s rising sponsorship income

For the Community Shield, the winning team receives a larger portion of the reward than the losing team. The other clubs that participated in the FA Cup during the season receive the remaining funds.

What Winners Do With Their Money

Each team participating in the first round of the FA Cup receives £5,000 to support initiatives in their communities before the money is distributed to clubs in the lower divisions of British football as well as to a number of charities.

In tandem with the objectives of the English FA the prize money will be used by the winners to support grassroots development in their football clubs and organizations, and also to fund educational programs that teach children about football and its values.

How Other Clubs Benefit

For many, it may be unfair that the winners cannot keep all £1.25 million to themselves. They have to share half of the total winnings with all the other clubs who competed in the FA Cup that season.

All the other clubs who competed in the FA Cup in the season will share 50% of the competition reward. This means that each club receives a share of £625,000. The remaining 50% of the prize money. Each of the 124 teams who participate beginning with the first round receives 5,000 pounds to fund neighbourhood improvement initiatives.

Final Words

The Community Shield is a great way to start the new season and quite a motivational funfair for all those who are involved. The Community Shield prize money will come in very handy in not just helping the clubs with the new season. It will also help the various charities that are involved and is a great way of giving back to the clubs, fans and so many more.
